Some things are cool; some aren't

Why does New Jersey have more toxic waste dumps and California have more lawyers?

New Jersey had first choice.

I've been living with my own private storm cloud over my head for the past few months, and it finally broke: I've officially been served with a lawsuit from that accident from a year and a half ago. Since I haven't talked to the lawyer from my insurance company yet, I won't go into any more details here. Write me if you want details.

Other than that, it's been an interesting week, as evidenced by the fact that it's before noon on a Saturday, and I'm at work. Mostly right now, John and I are testing out our dilution refrigerator unit to see how cold we can get. According to John, we should be able to get down to a few millikelvin. But back to Tuesday for now....

I had to go to the DMV because some asswipe stole the registration sticker off of my car, and I got a "fix it" ticket. The annoying thing about this isn't the hassle of having to pay a couple of processing fees, it's having to waste a few hours of my time going down to the DMV to pick up a replacement. *sigh* I suppose it could have been worse; they could have taken my car.

In the lab, I've been flying solo, since Manyam went up to Santa Barbara to do some of our micro-fabrication work. He'll be back on Monday. Since John is busy during the week doing Chair work, I was all by my lonesome self most of the week. In a way it was good, because I got a lot of work done, but in a way, it was bad, because there wasn't anybody to talk to most of the time. I guess I am a social person. :)

On Thursday, I watched the women's figure skating free program, and was absolutely amazed by the performances of Sara Hughes and Sasha Cohen (who is a friend's cousin, BTW). Comparatively, I was unimpressed with Michelle Kwan and Irina Slutskaya, who were supposed to walk away with the whole thing. It's a lot more fun to watch the nonconservative performances of people with nothing to lose, and everything to win. But, I suppose I'm not too surprised that the Russians are complaining. :/ Incidentally, it was Thursday I was served with the lawsuit.

So, I didn't sleep well going into Friday, and as a result, I was in a so-so mood pretty much all day long. My roommate Eric got home about the same time I did, and he immediately got himself a drink, and then suggested we go out to dinner. It turns out that his day was even worse than mine. So, we went out for Ethiopian, a first for me. The food was wonderful. Too bad the place is in El Cajon; a little far away to make my frequent dining list.

Well, I need to go check up on how the refrigerator is doing.
